The weather people are people-pleasers or super optimistic, idk. All summer they've been like "it's gonna be like 22 and no higher :)" and then we keep having heatwaves, and the forecast still is like "but it's absolutely gonna be ~22 after this one!!! promise"

But I keep falling for it, so...

I don't want to jinx anything but I think I've finally solved my FNV audio problem. I've not really been playing, just testing/exploring some stuff I want to write about. But I realised what an absolute masochist I am. I have this issue where the ambient soundtrack just glitches and stutters nearly constantly and I just played it like that. And pretended I couldn't hear it, most of the time. But it was awful.

This isn't my video but it illustrates the problem pretty well (towards the end). My problem was exactly the same, down to the radio working fine (and I like the radio stations, it's just I love the OST too and want to listen to that a lot of the time!)

I have tried so many things over the past 2 years of playing but today I think I finally found the cure - it was some conflict between audio codecs. It took a little trial and error but now it seems like everything's working as it ought to!

Some other things I tried along the way that I think at least alleviated the problem and may be part of the entire fix: these .dlls, and setting bMultiThreadAudio to 0 (contrary to some people who had success with, I think, unrelated issues by setting it to 1)

11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?

I think a lot of people take this advice too literally, and I'm not even counting the people who seem to believe it means you should kill off characters. Taken the way I understand it, I don't see how you could disagree with it. If it's not working for the story then it's not working. But I'm not one of those self-hating writers who thinks they should delete their favourite parts just because (why can so many writers not like, understand words), or one who is trying to eg tightly plot a novel below a publisher's accepted wordcount.

Sometimes I reuse things I cut, sometimes I don't. I've never really missed anything I couldn't find a good use for - I guess because, if it's really that good but just not working where it was, I'll strive to make it fit somewhere else.

12. If a genie offered you three writing wishes, what would they be?

Bigger mental thesaurus, stronger wrists, more hours in the day :)

13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?

Nothing in particular. My big hatred is writing from the POV of an expert in a subject I know little to nothing about and also don't care to learn. Two of the main characters in my big WIP are a sniper and a surgeon and it's helllllllllll. (The latter is also well-versed in the classics and I'm just not, but I'm making myself learn, FOR HIM)

14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?

I haven't lent anyone a book in years, apart from my husband I guess but that doesn't count. I always get my books back. I used to hate lending them to my FIL when he was a heavy smoker, but I still did.

15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?

I've read books in the bath - better than dropping a kindle right? I don't write in books but I sometimes rip out pages that annoy me in a book I otherwise want to keep. *shrug* They're my books! I'm only so hard on books I love - since I did KonMari, god, a decade ago I guess, I don't keep books I don't think I'll re-read, so I sell those. And ofc I would never mistreat a library book or a loan.

16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?

Nothing, all totally normal: real bookmarks, receipts/scrap paper, other books in complicated card-shuffling kind of arrangements...

I read some kind of article about things librarians find in returns and one was a slice of that processed burger cheese used as a bookmark. And like, on the one hand, I'm horrified - on the other kind of impressed and envious. Even the appetite control is remarkable.

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

Omg, the DW servers simply don't have the space.

18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end.

Oh no I didn't know the questions were going to get embarrassing

Idk I don't want to link to anything I already published (you guys know where to find my fics if you want to read them) and I don't want to share anything I haven't decided 20 times is ready, either. I often want to do those WIP Wednesday/SSS things but I'm too shy!

I have a lot of records of changes I've made to stuff in my WIP. I keep them when I do a serious rewrite of a passage like, maybe some weeks/months apart. It's pretty crazy sometimes because I often am worried the first go is as good as it will get (and in these cases it's already like the 20th attempt) and then I manage to improve it several times over a year, even when I thought there was nothing left I could improve.

19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?

Idk? I started writing when I was a little girl, don't we mostly? I got into writing fiction more seriously maybe 10 years ago but I never had real success until maybe 3 years ago (that was when I started my DAO WIP for like the 4th time and actually got somewhere with it and won my first NaNo :) But I had been working on an original novel since like 2011 or something.)

It's more bumps than road sometimes lmao. I'm going to... become the world's most famous and wealthy Fallout fanfic author!!! No, I don't really have any goals apart from having fun.

20. If a witch offered you the choice between eternal happiness with your one true love and the ability to finally finish, perfect, and publish your dearest, darlingest, most precious WIP in exactly the way you've always imagined it — which would you choose?

I already have my one true love and I'm happy with him. If we live forever I'll 100% finish my WIP to perfection :D
